In order to help meet and exceed your ALARA goals, Tri Nuclear has developed several unique shields for use with our standard equipment. We have developed shields for the transport of used Tri Nuclear filters, our RadWaste filter housing and standard 55 gallon drums. Typically Tri Nuclear shielding is made of virgin lead and is lined with 304SS.

VCB-2 | Filter Transfer Shield for a Single Tri Nuclear Filter
In nuclear power plants it is necessary to minimize radiation levels that personnel are exposed to. The Filter Transfer shield is designed to reduce the exposure from expended filter cartridges.
The VCB-2 filter transfer shield is designed for a single standard Tri Nuclear filter cartridge. It contains 2″ of lead shielding and is stainless steel clad. It is very mobile as it can be moved by hand, crane or fork truck. The shield is great for top or bottom loading of a filter.
FTS-11 | Filter Transfer Shield for 11 Tri Nuclear Filters
The Filter Transfer Shield, model FTS-11, is designed to reduce the exposure from expended filter cartridges. It is designed to hold 11 Tri Nuclear Corp. filter cartridges (6″ OD x 30″ lg.) in a specially made storage rack. It can be used to hold a typical 55 gallon waste drum, if needed. The unit has 2″ of lead shielding and is stainless steel clad. It is a mobile unit that can be moved by hand, crane or fork truck. It’s ideal for top or bottom loading. The unit works with a ½ ton, stainless steel chain hoist with 50 feet of lift.
RWFS-1 | Radwaste Filter and Shield
Tri Nuclear Corp. has developed a versatile skid mounted filter housing and lead shield, the RWFS-1. It has been used in high level radwaste processing. It is a mobile unit that can be moved by crane or fork truck. The shield contains 2″ of lead shielding on filter housing and 1″ of lead in cover
The filter housing is designed for 75 GPM and 150 psi and also contains a quick access cover that requires no tools for opening.
FPS-65 | Filter Pump and Shield on a Dolly
In nuclear power plants it is necessary to minimize radiation levels by periodically cleaning out settled sludge from sumps, tanks and drain lines. Tri Nuclear Corp. has developed a special dolly mounted filter and pump assembly, the FPS-65, to meet this need.
The FPS-65 is fully equipped and ready for operation. It’s a portable unit that can be moved by hand, crane or fork truck. Similar to the RWFS-1, it contains 2″ of lead shielding on filter housing and 1″ of lead in cover
The filter housing is designed to run at 75 GPM, although the pump runs approximately 65 GPM, and contains a quick access cover that requires no tools for opening. This allows the possibility of remote operation. It uses standard Tri Nuclear Corp. filters.
The pump is an air driven 2″ positive displacement pump. It’s capable of pumping lifts of 20 feet of water.
DS-3/4 | Drum Shield
In nuclear power plants it is necessary to minimize the radiation levels from waste generated during refueling outages and everyday operations. Tri Nuclear Corp. has developed a portable dolly mounted drum shield, Model DS-3/4, to hold one 55 gallon waste drum for collecting bagged radioactive waste.
This unit contains 3/4″ thick lead with stainless steel cladding. It is very mobile as it contains fork truck channels, 5” swivel casters and lifting ears for crane lift.
The inside shielded area is 26” ID x 37” high. It contains two hinged shielded doors and a ramp for easy removal of drum. The hinged doors and top cover have provisions for locking as well.
