Tri Nuclear has developed various stand-alone Underwater Demineralizers which are ideal for use in the Spent Fuel Pool or Reactor Cavity and are the most widely used underwater demineralizer on the market.

Tri Nuclear’s Underwater Demineralizers can be operated for long periods practically unattended without the need for maintenance or resin change out, all while controlling water chemistry and reducing pool water activity.

Because the portable Underwater Demineralizer is submerged, it needs no external shielding, or hoses running in or out of the water that may cause rippling, poor visibility or personnel contamination.

Tri Nuclear’s standard Underwater Demineralizers operate under negative pressure which allows the pump to be gravity seated and does not require any special tooling to install or remove the pump underwater.

Tri Nuclear’s Underwater Demineralizers can be sluiced while underwater. This can help minimize dose workers are exposed to further aiding ALARA goals.

Standard UD’s:

Tri Nuclear has developed a wide range of stand-alone Underwater Demineralizers which are ideal for use in various pool cavity applications. These systems are NUREG 0612 certified and can be remotely sluiced underwater.

• The UD-30A is a compact stand-alone Underwater Demineralizer which is ideal for use on special projects or in confined areas where space is at a premium.

• The UD-36A is a versatile stand-alone Underwater Demineralizer which is ideal for use in the Spent Fuel Pool or Reactor Cavity and is the most widely used underwater demineralizer on the market.

• The UD-48A is a large stand-alone Underwater Demineralizer which is ideal for processing large amounts of water at a greater flow rate.

Specialty UD’s:

Tri Nuclear has also developed several unique Underwater Demineralizer with specific plant requirements in mind. Contact us if you have special needs that the standard Underwater Demineralizer don’t meet and we can design a specialty system to meet your specific requirements.

• The RCDS-120 designed for Seabrook Station is a modular stand-alone Underwater Demineralizer which consists of eight demineralizer columns that can be transferred from the containment building via the fuel upender to the Spent Fuel Pool for storage.

• The UD-48P designed for Nine Mile Point is a specialized stand-alone Underwater Demineralizer which can be used in 4ft of water in the Dryer / Separator pit after drain down.

UD-30A | 30" Diameter Underwater Demineralizer

A 30” diameter demineralizer that is completely self contained and operates underwater. It has a 10 cubic foot resin capacity and a flow rate of 40 GPM. Ideal for use in small confined canals and pits.

UD-36A | 36" Diameter Underwater Demineralizer

A 36” diameter demineralizer that is completely self contained and operates underwater. It has a 30 cubic foot resin capacity and a flow rate of 75 GPM. Ideal for use when the SFP clean up system is OOC.

UD-48A | 48" Diameter Underwater Demineralizer

A 48” diameter demineralizer that is completely self contained and operates underwater. It has a 50 cubic foot resin capacity and a flow rate of 200 GPM. Ideal for use when the SFP clean up system is OOC.
