The VCPH Filter Cartridge is the backbone of our standard Underwater Filter / Vacuums. These filters are not the only options available for use in these systems. Tri Nuclear also has Bag Filters, Strainer Baskets and Underwater Catch Baskets.
The VCPH Filter Cartridges receive the most use out of all of the options available for use in our Underwater Filter / Vacuums. These filters are available in 0.3, 1, 5, and 10 micron sizes for most standard applications. Other special micron sizes are available as well.
Bag Filters can be used in our standard Underwater Filter / Vacuums instead of the standard VCPH Filter Cartridges. They are offered in 1, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 micron sizes. These are ideal for when waste compaction is key.
Strainer Baskets can be used for situations where large quantities of bulk material need to be gathered. These baskets are ideal for gathering chips from various cutting operations. Unlike the VCPH Filter Cartridges or Bag Filters, Strainer Baskets can be emptied out and reused. Our standard Strainer Baskets are available with 1/8 inch holes and we have other mesh lined baskets available.
Underwater Catch Baskets are used in conjunction with our VCPH Filter Cartridges. They are an insert into the cartridge that can strain out large particles that the plant may not want lodged into a filter cartridge. These Underwater Catch Baskets are can be emptied out and reused just like the Strainer Baskets. These are ideal for when there are loose parts that need retrieval, especially if those loose parts may be highly activated.
Tri Nuclear also has a line of all metal stainless steel filter cartridges that can be used with our Underwater Filter Vacuum and Underwater Filter equipment. These are often used for GTCC collection. Please contact us for more information on specialty products.
VCPH Filter Cartridges
To meet the continually changing demand for filtration in the nuclear power industry, Tri Nuclear Corp. has developed a standard filter cartridge for use in our filtration systems. Tri Nuclear’s innovative design of inside to outside, high flow, filter cartridges have served the nuclear industry in underwater filtration for over 35 years.

Filter Selection Guidelines
- The VCPH-5G & VCPH-10G are normally chosen for high dirt loading when vacuuming settled particulate.
- The VCPH-1G is best utilized for general water clarity.
- The VCPH-0.3G filter is typically used for final “polishing” of suspended particulate during water clarity operations.
Filter Cartridge Design
- Filter Cartridges have pleated paper construction which provides a large filter area and long run times
- Inside loading means that solids are trapped in the element and won’t flake or slough off during change out
Features
- Physically and chemically suited to all nuclear pool environments for long-term storage
- Pleated construction provides large filtration area
- High dirt loading with high flow rates
- Inside-to-outside flow with solid bottom end caps to contain filtered crud inside the cartridge
- Helps prevent the spread of contamination during filter draining and disposal
- Remote underwater handling capability
- Negative buoyancy to prevent filter floatation
- Easily handles and drip-dries
- Easily compacted for volume reduction
Strainer Baskets and Underwater Catch Baskets
Tri Nuclear has as a line of stainless steel strainer baskets that can be used in place of a filter cartridge and a line of stainless steel catch baskets that can be used in conjunction with our filter cartridges.
Strainer Baskets are typically used in situations where large quantities of bulk material needs to be collected and the amount or type of material makes using a standard Tri Nuclear filter impracticable. Strainer Baskets are ideal for gathering chips from various cutting operations and unlike our VCPH filter cartridges, strainer Baskets can be emptied out and reused. Our standard Strainer Baskets are available with 1/8 inch holes and can be special ordered with various stainless steel mesh inserts for further particle segregation.
